How it went
Welsh Champs Views
Things have been slightly hectic for some of us so we’ve been a bit late in posting an update. Well in the Welsh Champs we got eliminated at the quarter final by the local heroes H2O. The competition was well run but arguably tried to fit too much in. We had a substantial wait (counted in hours) between our first and second battle. By when we were quite tired from waiting and cyphering (dancing outside the competition in open circles).
Another complaint is that the amount of time allowed for the crew battles, considering the average crew size, was not enough. There was not enough time for everyone to represent adequately. With 7 people, to allow everyone to go out at least twice the battle should have gone for about 10 minutes instead of 7 (Counted by:
With crewSize = 7 , AverageSetLength = 20 secs and TimesOutEach = 2). Ten minutes would allow 2 or 3 members to go out an extra third time as well, depending on how things played out. For a 7 min battle we get a value of 1.5 times out, which is about right, all but 1 or 2 get to go out only once. Not cool.
The Day After Welsh: @ Albert Road Festival
We also ended up dancing for a short session during the Albert Road Festival dealie on Sun 29th September. By the end we were all quite tired after three days of constant exertion.
Classes
Well it seems the freshers fair went down rather poorly with only 4 members total signing on both days. We had class on friday, the 5th but there were only about 4 or 5 people, excluding us, there. We went over basics emphasizing the nature of the dance and trying to provide background to the moves. We’ll have to work on expanding our class size.
